candle-small4It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Shalom Asher Yeshaya Rubin zt”l, rov of Khal Avodas Yisroel-Kozhnitz of Seagate, Brooklyn. Rav Rubin passed away this week at the age of 55 after a lengthy illness.

Rav Rubin was a son of Rav Shmuel Shmelke Rubin, Sulitze Rebbe of Far Rockaway.

Rav Rubin was a talmid of Rav Yosef Rosenblum, rosh yeshiva of Shaarei Yosher, and was already recognized for his hasmadah and diligence at a young age. At the tender age of 25, he assumed the mantle of leadership at the Avodas Yisroel shul in Seagate. He later served as mashgiach of Yeshiva Kol Torah in Seagate. He was bloved by the Yidden of the close-knit Seagate community, who recognized his hasmodas haTorah, his sense of yashrus, his yiras Shomayim, and his unwavering emunah. Rav Rubin battled his terminal illness for over 15 years, always demonstrating remarkable bitachon and strength. He was niftar on Tuesday after suffering a stroke a half year ago.

At the levaya, held Tuesday night at Khal Avodas Yisroel-Kozhnitz of Seagate, hespeidim were delivered by several speakers, including Rav Yaakov Yisroel Rubin, rov of the Sulitze Bais Medrash in Far Rockaway and a brother of the niftar, and R’ Reuven Kalish, gabbai of Khal Avodas Yisroel-Kozhnitz of Seagate. The niftar was buried at the bais hakevaros in Floral Park, NJ.

Rav Rubin is survived by his parents, Rav Shmuel Shmelke Rubin, Sulitze Rebbe of Far Rockaway, and Rebbetzin Sarah Rubin, daughter of the Naroler Rebbe; his children, Rav Yissocher Rubin, Rav Yitzchok Rubin, Rav Boruch Rubin, Mrs. Ratza Chana Ungar, Issamar Rubin, and Henoch Rubin; and his siblings, Rav Yaakov Yisroel Rubin; Rebbetzin Malchie Teitelbaum, Volover Rebbetzin; Rebbetzin Devorah Hager, wife of the Seret-Vizhnitzer Rov of Yerushalayim; Rebbetzin Ruchie Paneth, Dezher Rebbetzin in Williamsburg; and Rebbetzin Yocheved Rubin, Ropschitzer Rebbetzin.
