shimon-rosengarten-2It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Shimon Rosengarten zt”l of Monsey, NY, who was niftar early this morning. He was approximately 87 years old.

Rav Rosengarten zt”l was one of the original talmidim of Bais Medrash Elyon in Monsey, where he studied under the tutelage of the rosh yeshiva, Rav Reuven Grozovsky zt”l.

Rav Rosengarten was the founder and dean of Bas Mikroh Girls School in Monsey.

He was a son-in-law of Rav Chaim Pinchos Scheinberg zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Torah Ore in Yerushalayim.

Together with his wife, Rebbetzin Rivkah, Rav Rosengarten raised a mishpachah of well-known rabbonim and marbitzei Torah.

The levaya was held today at Yeshiva Ohel Torah in Monsey. The aron will be flown to Eretz Yisroel, where a levaya will be held at Yeshiva Torah Ore in Yerushalayim.

  1. When I was a very young mashgiach in a yeshiva in Monsey 30 years ago, Rabbi Rosengarten (who was 25 years older than me) often came into the Bais Hamedrash while I was delivering a shmuess for young bochurim of fairly weak backgrounds. Afterwards he would often remind me that he enjoyed listening to me. It did wonders for my self-esteem, and not many people would be so modest and so quick to listen to someone so much younger.
He was a partner of Reb Yosef Hofman in the original Bais Mikro Boys School, with the encouragement of Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky. He was not only a talmid of Rav Yaakov, but also a supporter and member of his inner circle.
Such gentle dignity and unsung accomplishment is rare to see. Mi Yiten lanu temuroso

  2. July 31st, 2015.
In 1964, I attended Rockland Community College in the Nursing Program as a girl of 17years old. I was a Gentile who came to love the Jewish people as a result of taking a room for two years, at the home of the Rosengartens. They treated me as family and I grew to love, admire, and appreciate them. They were people of integrity, deep faith, and great charity. I helped with many of their celebrations, cared for their children and loved their peaceful dwelling with all of the feasts. I saw them three years ago as I traveled from my residence in Florida to New York. This week I have been trying to reach our friends the Rosengartens to no avail. I finally went on-line and found this site. It is with great sadness that my husband and I learn of the passing of this wonderful man. We do not know of the present dwelling of his wife Rifka. If she reads this, or anyone knows of her whereabouts, please tell her to contact me at 772-882-5677 or 772-631-7865. With heartfelt condolences to the family of Rabbi Shimon Rosengarten. Sincerely, Mrs. Sandra Pintavalle Walter
