Someone asked Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l if he should wait until after Tisha B’Av to follow up on a proposed shidduch. Rav Shlomo Zalman held the person’s hand and said that he should even meet the girl on Tisha B’Av if necessary. During a walk through the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood, Rav Shlomo Zalman stopped and pointed to a house and commented, “In that house lives a tzaddik who met his wife for the first time on Tisha B’Av.”
Regarding the dress code for a date in the Nine Days, Rav Shlomo Zalman advised to wear a nice jacket but not Shabbos clothing(Aleihu Lo Yibol, OC 314-315).

It is articles like this that make me realize just how much we are missing someone of R. Shlomo Zalman’s deep chochma. Today everything is NO NO NO NO.
as we see R’ Shlomo Zalman zt”l was from the last real gedolim, he was practical and always with in halachah and never looking for unneccesary chumros and always doing things b’ahava.

I just wonder why we are quoting an article from the sefer Aleihu Lo Yibol which was asked by R’ Shlomo Zalman’s son’s not to be printed because it was in accurate? Yes the author did the right thing by printing the request not to print the sefer, but he still printed it!!!
Reb Slomo Zalman was a tzaddik. Full of love and common sense. Well said above: we miss him dearly.
