rav-shmuel-toisigIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Shmuel Toisig zt”l, the Toldos Shmuel Rebbe, yesterday. Rav Toisig, who was 65, resided in Givat Shaul, Yerushalayim, and was on a visit to the United States at the time of his sudden petirah due to a heart attack.

Two days before he traveled from Eretz Yisroel, he gave a shiur, as he often did, on Radio Kol Berama; it would be his last such shiur.

A son of Rav Yechezkel Toisig zt”l, Rav Shmuel, who was orphaned as a child, grew up in Meah Shearim. In his younger years, Rav Toisig learned in the yeshivos of Slabodka and Mir, and was close with the Mirrer rosh yeshiva, Rav Chaim Shmulevitz zt”l.

In recent years, Rav Toisig suffered from diabetes and doctors had to amputate his leg. Nevertheless, he continued to travel to give shiurim and bring chizuk to the masses. He received the oppressed and strengthened the brokenhearted, sitting with them for many hours.

He leaves behind 13 children, 8 sons and 5 daughters, all of whom are married.

Rav Toisig used to spend much time in the U.S. with his Chassidim, often staying in Boro Park. While he was wheelchair-bound, he showed such courage and emunah.

Rav Toisig was a Sanz Klausenberger chossid and was close to the Sanz Klausenberger Rebbe zt”l. He was also close to the Lev Simcha and Bais Yisroel of Ger, from whom he would repeat countless vertlach.

35 years ago, Rav Toisig began to suffer from various illnesses, including diabetes, and 15 years ago he had a pacemaker installed.

The levaya was held last night at the Sanz Klausenberg bais medrash in Boro Park, and the niftar was flown to Eretz Yisroel for a levaya today in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichro boruch.
