The gedolei Eretz Yisroel have once again issued a psak that it is best advised during flights to daven Shemonah Esrei sitting down, restfully, rather than standing up.
Among the gedolim who ruled this way recently was Rav Shteinman, who answered bochurim traveling overseas for bein hazemanim after they were concerned about difficulties in saying all the customary tefillos on board planes.
In other news, Rav Chaim Kanievsky was asked whether bathing in the sea is considered an overseas trip, which would be forbidden according to the halacha, as leaving Eretz Yisroel is assur. Rav Chaim answered that bathing in shallow water or at a reasonable distance from the shore was permitted, but that swimming to a greater distance not reached by the average swimmer, was problematic.
Rav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv and Rav Shteinman warned yeshiva bochurim last year of trips involving spiritual dangers. They called on parents to prevent their children from embarking on such trips on their own.

I don’t understand the problem davening with a minyan on a plane. I’ve flown many times, and had a minyan every time. Just ask a Flight attendant before you start if its ok. They usually will say in 5 minutes!!
If people are respectful to the Flight crew, they will be respectful back.
We once had a minyon of people davening all withing their seat area (ie didn’t have to move a bit from their seats to daven) and made a minyon, and one yeshiva bochur insisted on not davening or answering amen even, because of a psak ‘no minyon on a plane’.

I asked Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, shlita, if one should pray with a minyan on an airplane. He said yes, adding that he does it “all the time.” While strictly speaking it might be permitted to pray at your seat, Rabbi Scheinberg prefers that one pray with a minyan, but quietly in a way that doesn’t disturb others.
Rabbi Shmuel Halevi Wosner: When the “fasten seatbelts” sign is lit, one should sit down. One should refrain from davening in large groups; it is preferable to daven in small groups in the seating area. The same is true for Shemoneh Esrei. If there is a possibility of standing beside one’s seat, not in the aisles, then that is preferable. If this is not possible Shemoneh Esrei can be recited while seated.
I’m not quite sure why this is a chiddush. Haven’t people been davening in their seats for years?
I guess we will have to conclude that there are differing opinions on this subject, ALL l’halacha, ALL daas torah and ALL appropriate.

Since when is the water not part of e”y the gemara draws a line from hor hahar in the north(not the one aharon was buried on) to nachal mitzrayim in the south all considered part of e”y including the islands. According to some rishonim all areas in the latitude of e”y are included (some parts of Europe) but the offshore areas several miles into the sea are included lchol hadeos. correct me if Im wrong?
