rav-aharon-leib-shteinmanSince the outbreak of the recent terrorist attacks in southern Israel, countless people have converged on the residence of Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman on Rechov Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak with shailos. Dozens of people and mosdos are wondering: Should summer and bein hazemanim events be canceled? May one vacation in the south?

Rav Shteinman has responded that all such outings, due to the great danger posed by the attacks, should be called off. Rav Shteinman told Ezer Mizion to reorganize its annual camp program and hold it instead in Netivot.

Bein hazemanim is a time of sakanah, as people are not learning Torah,” Rav Shteinman remarked to members of his household.  If people learn Torah, Rav Shteinman assured, the situation would calm down.

The week prior to bein hazemanim, Rav Shteinman had remarked, “We must daven that accidents do not take place during bein hazemanim. I’m afraid that when there is no Torah learned at this time, there is a possibility of danger.”

  1. the calamities during the summer are alot greater even then during the 3 weeks hashem yirachem, as we am recall the terrible story with train crash where 7 people from the same family were killed.

one needs a break from a long zman otherwise they wont be able to learn during the zman. And so perhaps people should learn during bein hazmanim light things. Just my thoughts.

  2. to #1: Yes, that is why in the most recent discussion on shidduchim when people wrote that the gedolim SHOULD dictate this takanah, or another person wrote that anyone can give advice like a gadol, maybe it’s time to take a step back and realize that we will never be smarter than our gedolim.
We can suggest things to them, but to write, “The gedolim MUST forbid a girl under 20 to date, or a boy older than 22 to attend the Mir or Brisk,…” it’s time we realize the gedolim are there to tell US what to do, not the other way around.
May we never lose our perspective of our leaders and their worth.
We nebach lost 3 gedolim this summer. Let’s appreciate and revere our remaining gedolim and daven for their arichus yamim!

  3. With all due respect….putting Jews in danger by adding Jews to E. Israel before the comming of Moshiach is something we must stop doing.
The Novi Yechekiel clearly says that it is from golus that Hashem will take the Yiddin back to E Ysroel (meheiro byomeinu) we say by mussaf on shabbes “acharis k reishis” to learn Torah is imperative but the causes of this sakonah was and is Zionism and its colaborators. Why we share with zionism a land in rebellion? its it learning Torah with an Uzzy at my side that Hashem will send Moshiach?
