rav-shteinman[Click here to view the front pages of lead Israeli newspapers.] Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman will lead a march of chareidi parents from Emmanuel who will be thrown in jail for refusing to obey a High Court ruling to send their daughters to the school in that city.

In addition, a massive rally, which MK Menachem Eliezer Moses of UTJ said will be “the mother of all protests,” will take place tomorrow in Yerushalayim.

Rav Shteinman has said that the Emmanuel issue is the “war of a generation”

“It’s a struggle for pure chinuch,” he said. “They don’t want to kill the body. They wish to take the soul.”
Rav Shteinman has spoken to roshei yeshivos from across the country and, in an unprecedented move, has asked them to join him in escorting the parents who are willing to be thrown in jail to protect their children’s spiritual wellbeing.

The global chareidi community is in an uproar over the High Court of Justice ruling on what they court erroneously claims is “racial segregation” in an all girls’ school in Emmanuel, but which is actually a non-democratic decision that forces parents to send their children to specific schools.

On Tuesday, the High Court ruled that Ashkenazi parents who will fail to adhere to the previous ruling and not send their children to the Bais Yaakov school together with the Sephardic students will be jailed for a period of two weeks for contempt of the court.

What is not being reported in the secular media is that this is an issue revolving around haskafah and Yahadus, and the decision of parents not to cave in to the High Court’s demand has been supported by the gedolim who recognize the spiritual issue involved.

“The chareidi sector isn’t considering caving in,” said MK Moses. “The spirit cannot be beaten. We will not pledge anything because of a court’s predominance.”

The chareidi community has repeatedly stressed that the battle is not a racial one, but concerns the religious standards of the families in the Emmanuel school.

But the Court has ruled that those who disobey will be thrown in jail – fathers, mothers, anyone.

“The officers will separate children and babies,” said MK Moses. “There are children less than a month old. They will be torn away from their mothers who will go to jail. That horrifying image is worse than the disengagement,” he said.

MK Moshe Gafni added, “We are facing a situation never before seen in the State of Israel – people of a large group going to prison. These pictures will be released all over the world and one cannot help but think of other countries in other times where chareidim were put in jail.”

Deputy Education Minister Meir Porush of UTJ will lead the massive rally in Yerushalayim tomorrow and will also escort the Emmanuel students’ parents to the prison gates.

Some 20,000 people are expected to attend the protest.

President Shimon Peres is scheduled to meet Rabbi Porush tomorrow.

  1. The Ge”ula is getting closer & closer as Klal yisroel is being tested more often with harder & harder Nisyonos (tests) of faith in Hashem. with this happening now we can see the peoples Mesiras Nefesh for Hashem & yiddishkeit May Hashem give them chizzuk & may this be a kiddush hashem for people who stand up for torah

  2. this reminds me of the spanish inquisition. it is beyond belief that this can happen in a jewish state, or is it a jewish state?..

  3. Wow, I can’t believe it. In the Spanish inquisition they stopped giving stipends to kolel yingeleit. I thought they burned jews alive. I thought they cut limbs off living children before smashing their bodies. I read in the history books they drained the blood of yiddishe kinderlech leading to a horrible slow death.
How dare you compare stopping to give 1000 shekel to the Spanish Inqusition. One needs to wash their mouth first. What are our children going to think when the Inqusition is mentioned.

  4. The previous comment ended with the 1000 shekel, it was meant to say that forced integration of sfardi and ashkenazi kinderlech , while horrendous and terrible still does not justify comparing to the Inquisition.

  5. to #4: “forced integration of sfardi and ashkenazi kinderlech”!!? is that what you think of our gedolim? in the school of the chareidim and Slonimers, there is the same percentage of sefardim as in almost all ahkenazi bais yaakovs in the entire country, and let’s see how long you’d keep your precious kinderlach in their bais yaakov if the courts in your city made it merge with the local conservadox hillel acadamy!! Over and over and over again, this is not about segregation, it is about secular exposure and worse.
