rav-wosnerOn Thursday, Rav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, author of the Shevet Halevi and rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin in Bnei Brak, celebrated his 100th birthday.

Rav Wosner was born in 1913 in Vienna, Austria. He learned in the famous Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin in Poland led by Rav Meir Shapiro, and married and moved to Eretz Yisroel before World War II, living in Yerushalayim where he learned at the Dushinsky Yeshiva. Despite his young age, he became a member of the Eidah Hachareidis.

When Rav Wosner moved to the Zichron Meir neighborhood of Bnei Brak, at the urging of the Chazon Ish, the Tchebiner Rov, Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer and others, he established his Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, bearing the same name as the one in Lublin where he had learned in his youth.

On his birthday, Rav Wosner maintained his regular seder hayom, including learning with his chavrusah, Rav Moshe Shaul Klein. He made a lechayim with close members of his family in honor of his birthday milestone.

May Hakadosh Boruch Hu give Rav Wosner kochos and gezunt for many, many more years.

  1. Ad Meiah V’Esrim Shana, Mashiach should come long before that, but Matzav pleaaase stop reporting our Gedolim’s ages, we need them badly and there’s no reason in the world to give them an Ayin Harah, besides for the fact that no normal person cares about their ages, and for the people who do care it’s none of their business
