Following the tragedy that took place at the levaya of Rav Shmuel Halevi Wosner zt”l with the trampling death of Reb Mordechai Gerber z”l of Elad, some are pointing out that Rav Wosner himself issues a p’sak halachah forbidden the bringing of an aron into a bais medrash for hespeidim.

Conversation continues regarding whether there was sufficient police presence at the levaya, held on Motzoei Shabbos, as well as whether the levaya should have been held during the day instead.

But focus is also being directed at a p’sak which would indicate that Rav Wosner’s aron should not have been brought into the bais medrash of his yeshiva, Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin, for the levaya altogether. In Sefer Iyunei Halachos, written by the Rebbe of Biala of Ramat Aaron, Cheilek Gimmel, which deals with the prohibition to bring a coffin into a bais medrash for hespeidim, a story that took place in the city of Bnei Brak is mentioned. One time, a respected talmid chochom was killed in a car accident amidst inclement weather. Due to the weather, the levaya could not be held outside.

Rav Wosner was consulted, and he ruled that the aron should not be brought into the bais medrash, and the hespeidim delivered in the bais medrash should be abbreviated, and instead an asifas hesped should be held to mark the end of shivah or shloshim.

  1. anyone who can read can also see on the same page you have pictured here how he said that the Rov/Rebbe of the community SHOULD be brought in!!!!!!!

  2. please look yourself in yoreh deah 344 20 where the halacha is clear and unquestioned that a talmid chochom of rav vosner’s stature should be brought into the bais medrash. The cas in the sefer is unrelated to that. please fix.

  3. Please look yourself in yoreh deah 344 20 where the halacha is clear and unquestioned that a talmid chochom of Rav Wosner’s stature should be brought into the bais medrash. The case in the sefer is related to someone not as worthy. Please correct this mistake.

  4. what difference does it make if the aron is or isnt allowed unless you mean to say that because it was brought in the person was niftar

  5. anyone who can read can also see on the same page you have pictured here how he said that the Rov/Rebbe of the community SHOULD have his Ohron brought in to the shul!!!!!!! Selective reading!

  6. This whole article is strange. In the very same picture of the sefer, in Os 6, on the left, he wrote that one should not forbid a Kehillah from bringing their leader’s body into the Beis Midrash for Hespeidim.

  7. the difference is, if the aron is not inside, not everyone will push to touch the aron, and if they do, outside there is infinite space to go. whereas inside they will be squashed.

  8. The issue is PURE SEFISHNESS people put their own needs before the basic safety of others if there is no a MAJOR change in how large levayos are conducted then we are in big trouble if we dont even learn from the death of a jew then what will we learn from
