Rav Yaakov Edelstein, the venerated rov of Ramat Hasharon who has been hospitalized at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer for the last month, underwent surgery this Purim afternoon.
The five hour procedure started a bit later than scheduled and ended a short while ago. Doctors at the hospital say they are satisfied with the way the procedure went, but stress that the next few days are critical and they will be monitoring Rav Edelstrin very closely.
Rav Edelstein, 93, was taken to the hospital last month after experiencing difficulty breathing. Since then, he has been battling a number of maladies.
Rav Edelstein’s brother, Rav Gershon Edelstein, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh in Bnei Brak, instructed the talmidim of the yeshiva to recite Tehillim this morning after davening.
All are asked to continue davening for Rav Yaakov ben Miriam ben Gittel.
