candle-small4It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Yaakov Goldstein zt”l of Flatbush, Brooklyn. Rav Goldstein was a noted talmid chochom who taught many talmidim during his years as a rebbi and maggid

shiur.

Rav Goldstein grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and learned at Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, becoming a devoted talmid of Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz zt”l. He maintained a close relationsip with Reb Mike Tress and others from the period.

He later assumed a position on Pelham Parkway and formed a close kesher with the Ozherover Rebbe zt”l.

Rav Goldstein served as a beloved rebbi at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef (RJJ) in Manhattan and subsequently as mashgiach at Yeshiva Ohr Yisroel in Queens.

In his later years, Rav Goldstein frequented the Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn, as well as Agudas Yisroel Snif Zichron Shmuel, the shul of Rav Eliezer Ginsburg, where he delivered an inspiring Shabbos morning Nefesh Hachaim shiur.

In addition to his vast knowledge of Torah, Rav Goldstein endeared himself to so many people with his warmth and sensitivity. His aidelkeit and ever-present smile touched many people over the years.

In recent years, Rav Goldstein battled illness. His neshamah returned to its Creator last night.

Rav Goldstein is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Goldstein, and his children, Rabbi Shimon Kalman Goldstein, Rabbi Eliezer Goldstein, Rabbi Dovid Goldstein, Rabbi Yehoshua Goldstein, Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Goldstein, Rabbi Betzalel Goldstein and Rebbetzin Faigy Yudkowsky, wife of the Stuchiner Rebbe.

The levaya will take place this morning at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 3803 14th Avenue in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  2. I personally knew Rabbi Yackov ZT”L, he was our beacon of light in Yiras Shomayim and personified how a talmid chochom acts. I recall his mesiras nefesh for mitzvohs and tefillah, coming to shul to every tefillah even when not well. May he be a Malitz Yosher for his family and Kllal Yisroel.

  3. A special person who grew up in America and was moser nefesh for Torah. He’s quoted in the books They Called Him Mike & Lieutenant Birnbaum. He would learn mishnayos EVERY DAY l’illu nishmas Reb Elimelech Tress z”l who had guided him. How significant that he was nifter on his yahrtzeit.

  4. The article should include,as one of the yesomim, the revered and esteemed Rabbi Avraham Goldstein, a TRUE Ger Tzedek, who became enlightened by the zeeskite of Torah and HaShem, by Rabbi Goldstein! When joining Am Yisroel he even took on the name Goldstein, having considered himself one of the Goldstein children. Rabbi Goldstein is credited for all the subsequent neshamos that Reb Avrohom brought tachas kanfay HaShechina too! The Pamalya Shel Maaaloh are welcoming a holy Yid unto their ranks today!
Yehi Zichro Baruch and mat he be a maylitz yosher for our kraankeh dor!

  5. Reb Yakov was the principal in Ohr Yisroel from 1973 till his retirement. He was also the rabbi of the Brisker Shul on Keap st. and gave a class in Torah Vodaas weekly for mechanchim. he grew up on the lower e.side. yehi zichroy boruch

  6. He was my menahel in ohr yisroel. A truly amazing mechanech and warm caring person. May he be a meilitz yosher for klal yisroel.

  7. We have lost a true Torah legend – one of America’s best mechanchim in America in the 50’s and 60’s who saved many from falling out and made many of them Roshei Yeshiva – some of Lakewood’s early talmidim will testify that it was he who was their greatest rebbe

  8. What a fabulous person

I never met a sweeter man who was so bsimcha despite all he went through, including losing his first rebbetzin

may they family have a nechama

may we all learn from Rav Goldstein’s middos

  9. He was a very special person who devoted his lfe to helping yidden in troubled times. May he be a Malitz Yosher for his family and for Kllal Yisroel.

  10. I need to write l’kovod hames (in honor of the passing of Rabbi Goldstein):
Rabbi Yaakov Goldstein was my rabbi and converted me to judaism more than 30 years ago.
after the conversion he said to me “now you are my son” and got his last name, from then on and since then, lots of wonderful things had happened to the point that his entrance in bet din shel maala will be greeted by Avrohom Avinu for the thousands of jews that got inspired thru his inluence. Today the Goldstein name has grown to be added his spiritual grand children not only my 7 children but many that later became talmidei chachomim (last month another of these Goldsteins got rabbinical ordination) We founded an organization that help
those like me to enter judaism in the loving way that he showed me. Rabbi, I will miss you but you will always live in my heart! in front of me is the picture of my wedding 25 years ago,
your smile and love I can still feel! I will try to carry your love and inspiration everywhere and keep you alive forever!
Tonight I will eulogize you in Spanish and let your teachings continue be known to a world in despetare need of people like you!
Please tell Avrohom Avinu to come and take us away from the golus… after all we think…..Eliahu ha novi and Moshiach Tsidkeinu will listen to our grand father!

  11. We are so thanksful to Rabbi Yaakov Goldstien ZT”L to give me/us the oportunity to meet a great Chochom and our Dear Rabbi Abraham Goldstein Shlit”a, thanks for that Great Love that we have recieved from our Rabbi Abrohom Goldstein Shlit”a , Without the Help of Rabbi Yaakov Goldstein ZT’L a great Tzadik wouldn’t be helping people that want to be part Of the holy people of Isroel.

  12. #11 – I didn’t know that he was the Brisker Rav as well.

Boruch dayan ho’emes. Not sure if I knew him as there is no photo here, but an older friend of mine, who is a very choshuver Yid shlit”a, yblct”a, was pained by the news.

  13. I remember him as a boy in Williamsburg davening at the Kolzemberger shul.
He will give quaters to the children that anwsered loud during davening. I miss yidden like that. YZ”B

  14. Rabbi Yaacov Goldstein was the greatest Rav. There is nobody in his league today. He was a mensch, a brilliant Rebbi, principal and a talmid chacham. He raised a wonderful family. I will always remember him.
