Rav Yehudah Elchonon Diskind zt”l
It is with great sadness that we report that passing of Rav Yehudah Elchonon Diskind zt”l of Flatbush, Brooklyn. Rav Diskind, who was 91, lived a long and fruitful life in which he was involved in chinuch and numerous endeavors of avodas hakodesh. Rav Diskind was longtime mechanech who served as a rebbi at the Yeshiva of Eastern parkway and Mirrer Yeshiva Ketana.
He will be remembered for his love and yedios of Torah, for his perpetual smile and good cheer, for always having a good vort and a nice word to share, and for being a devoted parent, husband and zaide.
Rav Diskind, who resided for the last decades on East 10th Street in the Flatbush community, davened in the shul of Rav Avigdor Miller zt”l, Bais Yisroel of Rugby on Ocean Parkway, becoming a true talmid of Rav Miller and imbibing the Torah and hashkafa of his great rov.
Despite his own yedios in Torah and great accomplishments, Rav Diskind was always humble and self effacing, carrying himself in a quiet, dignified manner. His middos were impeccable. He was a special individual who will be missed by those who were fortunate to know him.
Rav Diskind is survived by his devoted wife, Rebbetzin Toby, nee Zimmerman, as well as children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are following in the path of ahavas haTorah, kiddush Hashem and ahavas Yisroel that he forged.
His children include Mrs. Bryna Bender, wife of Rav Yaakov Bender, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway; Rav Dovid Diskind, rosh yeshiva of a Yeshiva Gedolah in Lakewood, NJ; and Rav Pesach Diskind of Canada. He is also survived by his brother, Rav Hirsch Diskind, dean emeritus of Bais Yaakov of Baltimore and son-in-law of Rav Yaakov Kamenetzky.
The levaya will be held today, at 2 p.m., at Bais Medrash Bais Yisroel, located at 1819 Ocean Parkway, between Avenues R and S, in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
The niftar will then be taken to John F. Kennedy Airport and will be flown from Cargo B, Area 23, at 4:45 p.m., to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah. The levaya in Eretz Yisroel will take place at Bais Halevayot in Givat Shaul at 3:30 p.m. and kevurah will take place on Har Hamenuchos.
May Rav Yehudah Elchonon ben Rav Pesach Diskind serve as a meilitz yosher for his entire mishpacha and all of Klal Yisroel.
Yehi zichro boruch.
