It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Yisroel Kleiner zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Hakerem in Yerushalayi. He was 79.
Rav Kleiner on 21 Tishrei tof reish tzadi zayin. A noted talmid chochom, he was one of the prominent disciples of Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Be’er Yaakov.
For decades, Rav Kleiner was marbitz Torah at Yeshivas Bais Hakerem in Yerushalayim, carrying on the legacy and teaching the Torah of his great rebbi, Rav Shapiro.
Rav Kleiner leaves behind doros yeshorim umevorachim, including 11 children and many grandchildren. One of sons-in-law is Rav Meir Kessler, rov of Modi’in Illit.
The levaya was held this morning at Yeshiva Bais Hakerem on Rechov in Haturim in the Makor Baruch neighborhood of Yerushalayim.

I was a talmid of Rav Kleiner in 5732/1972. He was also an early talmid of Rav Berel Soloveichik in the late 1950’s and still had contact with the Brisker Rov ZT”L. I visited him on most of my trips to E”Y. He suffered a stroke several years ago which left him partially paralised. He had several choshuve talmidim in Lakewood including R. Avrohom Chaim Kanarek and Rabbi Yoel Amoyelle.
