rav-yitzchak-yosefAccording to News24, Rav Yitzchak Yosef, one of Rav Ovadia Yosef’s sons, said in a recent shiur that while for meat and chicken the basic Rabbanut should not be relied upon, for sweets everything is muttar and the regular Rabbanut is fine. There is no need for a “better” hechsher on sweets.

Some have questioned the statement, pointing out that such a blanket statement is dubious, as candies and sweets could contain gelatins that a consumer may not want to rely on, in addition to oils and other ingredients. The item might also be manfactured in the same factory as a problematic product.

  1. If you’re makpid on cholov yisroel be sure to double check the ingredients since a lot of chocolates use powdered milk that is cholov nochri

  2. As per the P’sak of the Har Tzvi in YD 102, powdered milk is not a issue of Cholov Nochri. R’ Moshe, as well as R’ Ruderman were said to have agreed to this P’sak

  3. I’m certain sfardim dont hold like the Har Tzvi (which I understood applies to products of whey- not dehydrated milk). That’s why Im surprised that the rabbanut hechsher which uses nochri powdered milk would be ok according to R’YY
