rav-yitzchok-tuvia-weissHundreds of Yidden protested for several hours yesterday near the Intel plant in Yerushalayim. This is the second successive Shabbos that people have gathered in protest of the plant operating on Shabbos.

Unlike last week, police were prepared in large forces to try and fight the protestors. Police presence near the plant included mounted police, a helicopter, Border Police troops and special patrol unit. They were led by Yerushalayim police chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Franco. Intel’s private security guards were also prepared with water hoses to drive protesters away from the gate.

The hundreds of protesters marched from local neighborhoods to the Har Hotzvim industrial zone in which the plant is located.

Chareidi sources say that Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, Gaavad of the Eidah Hachareidis, himself was pushed at one stage by the police.

The protests led to the closure of Golda Meir Boulevard in north Yerushalayim, an important traffic artery. Yerushalayim city councillor Elisha Peleg (Likud) called the protest “an chareidi terrorist attack,” and urged police to keep major Yerushalayim thoroughfares open.

Meanwhile, secular organizations began some initial counter-protests. Intel had asked counter-protesters not to attend the chareidi demonstrations, saying it may escalate the situation. However, the “Forum of Organizations for a Free Jerusalem” staged some preemptive actions in the area of the plant, according to Haaretz.

  1. Apparently the “Forum of Organizations for a Free Jerusalem” dropped disgusting pamphlets all over the premises. In addition they sprated graffiti saying the Gadol Rav Weiss Shlita was the son of a gomer. L’havdil!

  2. my father said 2 places dont go were they give money and were they give petch (beatings), money because they wont give and petch because they WILL give

  3. there is no greater Chilul Hashem then Jews condemning other Jews for speaking out (screaming out of pain) for Chilul Shabbos, I was there myself from the beginning and till the police arrived there was no violence, it was nice and peaceful all they where doing was screaming “SHABBOS” there is no law in Israel that prohibits the screaming of the word Shabbos !!! (YET) so when the reporters distort the truth don’t fall for it.
