[Photos below.] Hundreds gathered today in Yaffo to once again protest the desecration of kevorim there as the Israel Antiquities Authority continues to ignore all pleas to halt their activities. Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, the Gaon Av Bais Din of the Eidah Hachareidis, participated in the protest, and thankfully the police didn’t resort to tear gas today (sic) to quell the crowds. The gathering on Yaffo’s Andromeda Hill and Rechov Louis Pasteur was controlled by massive police forces and police on horses.
The archaeological dig is taking place before the construction of a high-rise building on the site of Jewish graves.
A letter issued by members of the Badatz yesterday called for a boycott of Electra, the company that has commissioned the uprooting the graves in Yaffo to proceed with construction there. Among those who signed the letter were Rav Chaim Kanievksy, Rav Shmuel Halevi Wosner, Rav Nissim Karelitz and Rav Shmuel Auerbach. The Electra company has denied its involvement in the digging, but a Badatz investigation claims beyond doubt that the company is indeed responsible.
