It is often said that Rav Ovadiah Yosef studied Kabbolas seforim and hid it from the public eye. During a recent drosha, his son, Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, said that Rav Ovadiah even concealed this from his family.
“I once entered my father’s bedroom to speak to him about something,” he said in a shiur. “I’d been told that he was learning there. I came in. He was holding a sefer. The moment I came in, he put it beneath the table, holding it in his hand, and spoke with me about what I wanted.
“Afterwards I told my brother, ‘Check and see what Abba was reading down there.’ …He checked and found that it was a kabolah sefer. My father learned kabolah. He didn’t want me to see and concealed it.”

He’s not referring to the Zohar Hakadosh, because that is quoted by Rav Ovadia ZL. He is obviously referring to advanced Seforim. I just don’t understand why he would try to hide it like that.
