Rav Yosef Dov Furman zt”l

rav-yosef-dov-furman[Shivah info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Yosef Dov Furman zt”l.

The levaya is taking place tonight at the Mirrer Yeshiva, located at the corner of Ocean Parkway and Avenue R in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Rav Furman very recently suffered a stroke and then experienced a rapid decline in his health. His petirah leaves a deep void in the hearts of the many people who knew him. Rav Furman always had a smile and good word for every person he encountered. His innate goodness could be seen in his many acts of kindness and the many people who were drawn to him.

Rav Furman, who resided in Brooklyn, was slated to resettle in Lakewood, NJ, but his dream never came to fruition, as his pure neshamah returned to its creator.

Together with his rebbetzin, Rav Furman merited to raise a remarkable family of respected marbitzei Torah, talmidei chachomim, and yereim ushleimim.

Rav Yosef Dov has three grandchildren who are currently engaged: Esther Malka Furman, daughter of Rav Avrohom, engaged to to Yisroel Eliezer Mitnick, a son of Rav Mordechai Mitnick and a grandson of Rav Yitzchok Mitnick and Rav Elya Kanarek; Reuvan Furman, son of Rav Yaakov,  engaged to Rochel May, granddaughter of Rav Meir Stern, Rosh Yeshiva of Passaic; and Moshe Reuvan Green, son of R’ Dov and Yaffa Green to Chana Glatzer, daughter of R’ Sender Glatzer of Lakewood.

Unfortunately, these simchos will take place without the participation of the beloved zaida, whose legacy and warmth will continue to serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.

Rav Furman had the zechus to have a great-grandson born 30 minutes after his petirah to his grandchildren,  Esther Malka (Green) and Yehoshua Silber.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Ettel Furman; their children, Rav Yaakov Furman of Brooklyn, rosh yeshiva in Yeshivas Vyelipol; Rav Avrohom Furman and Rav Nuta Furman of Lakewood; and Mrs. Yaffa Green.

The family is sitting shivah at 1143 Ocean Parkway, between Avenues K and L, in Flatbush. Shacharis is at 7:30, Minchah is at 2:15, and Maariv is at 8 p.m.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Rav Furman ZT”L was a very special person. His Chesed done through his business is legendary. Many people sleep on mattresses they could not afford or could not pay for yet Rav Furman never said a word to create hardships on those who couldn’t pay

  2. Rabbi Green’s son also just got engaged. Another chasunah in the family without the Zaida.

May the family be zoche to only make simchas from now on.
