zalman-leib-teitelbaumRav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum of Satmar will be spending this Shabbos, Parshas Re’eh, in Kriyas Yoel in advance of the yahrtzeit of his uncle, the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum zt”l, this Sunday. It is 30 years since the histalkus of the Rebbe. Rav Zalman Leib will preside over tishen and lead tefillos at Vayoel Moshe, his bais medrash in Kiryas Yoel.

The visit to Kiryas Yoel for Shabbos comes ahead of Sunday, when the greater Satmar kehillos will commemorate the yahrtzeit of the Divrei Yoel. On Motzoei Shabbos and Sunday, only men will be permitted into the Kiryas Yoel cemetery. On Monday, the cemetery will be open exclusively for women from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

After the passing of Rav Moshe Teitelbaum zt”l, the late Satmar Rebbe. His son, Rav Aharon Teitelbaum, leads the Satmar kehillah in Kiryas Yoel, while his son Rav Zalman Leib Teitelbaum leads the kehillah in Williamsburg.

Rav Aharon’s kehillah in Williamsburg is quite large and occupies the important pulpit that his venerated great-uncle, the Divrei Yoel, established in the early 1970s. Rav Zalman Leib, resides in Williamsburg and occupies the pulpit originally established by the Divrei Yoel upon his arrival in America in 1947. The successor to that pulpit upon the passing of the Divrei Yoel was Rav Zalman Leib’s father, Rav Moshe, author of Beirach Moshe.

Rav Zalman Leib also has a considerable following in Kiryas Yoel, and they, too, have established their own growing school system and chain of shuls.

On the yahrtzeit of the Divrei Yoel, a massive pilgrimage of Yidden visit his kever. More than 100,000 Yidden are expected to visit the ohel where the Divrei Yoel is buried. In addition to kever of the Divrei Yoel’s wife, Rebbetzin Alta Feiga Teitelbaum a”h, the ohel also contains the kever of the Beirach Moshe, whose yahrzeit is on Nissan 26.

During the course of the day, thousands of people will pass through the ohel.

The Shabbos morning, a Hachnosas Sefer Torah will be celebrated in Kiryas Yoel with the participation of Rav Zalman Leib. The procession will depart from the home of R’ Meir Roth. On Motzoei Shabbos, a melava malka will be held in the Tehilos Yoel bais medrash.

  1. Too bad they can’t sit together. If they did it would go a long way to create sholom and would turn a really bad scene into a good one.

    (I am allowed to dream.)

  2. Oh really reb zalman will be in monroe? and where will he be next week? where was he last week?
Wow, what a major news stroy. this article should be the news on the year.

  3. yeah #3, how do you not see the importance of this news? I am personally unable to enjoy Shabbos until I know exactly where both Satmar Rebbes are going to be. Once I have found out, I can relax.
