It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Zev Hakohen Hoberman zt”l.
Rav Hoberman, who was 82 years old, was one of the distinguished early talmidim of Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l in the United States.
In his youth, Rav Hoberman grew up in Baltimore and attended the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore. In 1945, TA opened a high school, and Rav Samson, the rosh yeshiva, contacted Rav Yitzchok Hutner at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin and asked him to send a talented rebbi for the eighth grade. Rav recommended one of his best talmidim, Rav Hirsch Diskind. Rav Diskind started by supervising 20 talmidim living in the dormitory, situated above the auditorium at TA’s Cottage Avenue location. Some of the early dorm residents included Rav Hoberman, as well as Rav Aaron Feldman, later rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel, and Rav Leib Heiman, later a talmid muvhok of Rav Aharon Kotler and rov of the Gra shul in Bayit Ve’gan. The highest shiur was given by Rav Yaakov Bobrowsky. Like Rav Hoberman, many of Rav Bobrowsky’s talmidim went on to learn at Lakewood.
Rav Hoberman later served as a R”M and rebbi at the Yeshiva of Eastern Parkway, Yeshiva of Philadelphia, the Staten Island Yeshiva and Yeshivas Itri, and was the author of sefer Ze’ev Yitrof and other chiddushei Torah. Rav Zev was well-respected for his wide breadth of yedios haTorah and his years of dedication to harbotzas haTorah.
Rav Hoberman was ill for many weeks and was niftar at Hackensack Medical Center on the first night of Yom Tov.
Rav Hoberman’s wife, Rebbetzin Esther Hoberman a”h, a respected mechaneches for over 60 years, passed away four years ago in 2008.
Rav Hoberman leaves behind a mishpacha of well-known marbitzei Torah and machzikei Torah. His children are Mrs. Rochel Littman of Monsey; Rabbi Yisroel Meir Hoberman of Lakewood; Rav Chaim Yehoshua Hoberman, rosh yeshiva at Mesivta of Long Beach; Rabbi Ahron Hoberman of Lakewood; Rabbi Eli Hoberman, executive administration member at Yeshiva Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin in Brooklyn; and Rabbi Avrohom Hoberman, R”M at Yeshiva of Philadelphia. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who follow in his and his rebbetzin‘s ways.
The levaya will take place at 11:30 a.m. today at Bais Medrash Govoah, located at 617 6th Street in Lakewood, NJ.
The aron will then be taken to JFK Airport in New York for kevurah in Eretz Yisroel.
Yehi zichro boruch.

BDE:another tzaddik has R”L left us in the midst of zman simchaseinu (time of happiness) at the age of 82
ONCE AGAIN TRAGEDY STRIKES AGAIN BY HASHEM
each tzaddik that is taken away from klal yisroel, lowers the kedusha of klal yisroel & is a tragic loss.
are we going to EVER accept hashems wake-up call for teshuva? or will we just let it pass & think we can fool Hashem like we dont know why such tragic events happen RL?
TZAROS in klal yisroel is getting worse & worse by the day ALL due to one reason
HASHEM IS WAITING FOR US TO RETURN TO HIM & DO TESHUVA SO HE CAN BRING MASHIACH & RETURN TO US. Hashivenu Hashem ailecha .
HOW much more tzaros will need to happen CV before we do teshuva? that is up to us. it can all end today.
MAY HIS NESHAMA HAVE AN ALIYA
may everyone have a gutten moed
another tzaddik that was R”L added to the list of gedolim niftar over a short span of time R”L
& only 10 days since the last tzaddik was niftar at 75 & departed for the olam ha’emes
how does klal yisroel lose almost 100 Tzaddikim & rabbonim in a matter of only 17 moths with many of them only in their 70’s & 80’s?
to everyone wondering & thinking that 70s & 80s is the time to die. its actually pretty young when compared to 120 or even to 100
BUT 70?S OR 80?S IS YOUNG TO BE NIFTAR.
each one is so close-knit one from the next is this coincidence? we used to hear once every 3 or 6 months that a tzaddik was niftar RL
MAY WE NEVER NEED TO HEAR FROM TZAROS AGAIN (ESPECIALLY ON SUKKOS)
yehuda
Time: seek help from your rav
Are there any details on the kevurah in Eretz Yisroel? Where? When?
