Rav Zevulun Weisberger zt”l


rav-zevulun-weisbergerIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Zevulun Weisberger zt”l at the age of 83. Rav Weisberger devoted over six decades of his life toward harbotzas haTorah, spending many years in rabbonus.

Rav Weisberger was raised by his parents, R’ Avrohom and Sarah Weisberger, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. Inspired by a visit of a talmid of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas who was sent one Rosh Hashanah to the community by Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz zt”l, young Zevulun left his parents at the young age of 13 to travel to New York to join Torah Vodaas.

In 1954, Rav Weisberger married his eizer kenegedo, Chava, nee Binstock, who hailed from the Bronx and had attended Rebbetzin Vichna Kaplan’s Bais Yaakov in Williamsburg.

Rav Weisberger served as rov various out of town kehillos, with the support of his devoted wife. They later moved to Boro Park, where Rav Weisberger continued teaching and inspiring people, delivering shiurim, authoring articles on a range of Torah topics, and dedicating his every day to the furtherance of the word of Hashem. Among the various positions he held, he taught halacha for many years at BYA High School and also served as a rebbi in Camp Ohr Shraga.

Rav Weisberger passed away early Thursday morning, August 1. The levaya was held at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Boro Park. Divrei hesped were delivered by Rav Yisroel Meir Kirzner, rov of Khal Bnei Yehudah; Rav Leibel Katz, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Chasdei Torah; his sons, Reb Dovid, Reb Yisroel and Reb Avi; and his sons-in-law, Rav Mordechai Moskowitz and Rav Eliezer Trenk. Kevurah followed in Deans, N.J.

Rav Weisberger is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chava Weisberger; their children, Reb Dovid Weisberger, Reb Yisroel Weisberger, Reb Avi Weisberger, Mrs. Shani Trenk and Mrs. Esther Moskowitz; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in his ways.

  1. He was amazing person! His favorite PooTzoo & LooTzoo story charachters were but a bossis for midos and Yiras Shamayim implanting within us, his unsuspecting but eager audience! He raised children who are all amazing Oivedei HaShem.

  2. For years he used to do special late leinings of megillas Esther in Boro Park, for noshim, on Purim, evening and morning, as well.

    Last year there was a fine article in the Yated newspaper following the passing of his brothers, Reb Ozer and Reb Dani, zichronam livracha, which gave a great picture of their background and how they came from small town PA, where Yiddishkeit was very shvach, to the Torah centers of New York.
