rcaLast Tuesday afternoon, Rabbi Shmuel Goldin, First Vice-President, Rabbinical Council of America, released the following statement:

The recent statement from Agudath Israel reflects an unfortunate misunderstanding of the position of the Rabbinical Council of America concerning women’s ordination.

We therefore issue the following clarifications:

The Rabbinical Council of America in no way endorses the title maharat or the maharat program under the direction of Rabbi Avi Weiss. The Rabbinical Council of America released Rabbi Weiss’s letter in order to place in the public record authentication of our statement that Rabbi Weiss has committed not to ordain women as rabbis.
In numerous interviews today, the president of the Rabbinical Council of America, Rabbi Moshe Kletenik, has clearly stated “To ordain a woman as a Rabbi is a breach of our Mesora and is unacceptable practice in Orthodoxy. It is also unacceptable for an Orthodox synagogue to have a woman on its rabbinical staff.”

Thank you for your attention

  1. Yes but actions speak louder than words the RCA continues to accept a shul that does just what they are condemning to be an RCA member. They frequently do not follow the positions of Daas Torah for example on saying the medinah is the begining of Geulah.

  2. “Rabbi Weiss has committed not to ordain women as rabbis.” Yeah but he said he will still ordain “Maharat” its the same idea with a diferent name why doesnt the RCA condemn that program specficly not just women “rabbi’s”.

  3. Why does the RCA play both sides? They know the truth about Rabbi Weiss and his School.Expel him from the RCA.If he decide to open his own RCA let him, this way he will be away from all yidden.
