It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Reb Zev Wolfson z”l, noted baal chessed and baal tzedakah. He was 84.
Mr. Wolfson was born in Vilna, Poland, and immigrated to America at the age of 17 with his mother and his young brother. He immediately went to work, while sending his brother to yeshiva. In no time, he demonstrated a brilliant business mind and became a major New York City real estate developer and a very astute Wall Street investor. Among Mr. Wolfson’s many projects was a magnificent skyscraper in a prime location in downtown Manhattan, which started his very successful real estate business.
For many decades, Reb Zev demonstrated tremendous devotion to the furtherance of Jewish education. His relentless efforts, through the Wolfson Foundation, supported by prominent authorities in the United States and overseas, helped develop and maintain yeshivos, Bais Yaakovs, day schools, and other projects all over the world, including the United States, Eretz Yisroel, France, Morocco and Russia. His motto always was, “I work for the Jewish children.”
Reb Zev supported numerous yeshivos, kollelim and mosdos haTorah, dispensing tens of millions of dollars each year toward hachzokas haTorah. He was recognized as one of the greatest baalei tzedakah of his time.
He and his wife, Nechama, residents of the Lawrence, NY, community, were known for many chessed activities in the community, and Reb Zev maintained a close kesher with many gedolim, including Rav Aharon Kotler zt”l and Rav Avrohom Pam zt”l, among others.
Mr. Wolfson was blessed with a large family of bnei and bnos Torah, and many grandchildren. His children include Reb Avrohom Wolfson, Reb Moshe Wolfson, Reb Doniel Wolfson and Reb Aharon Wolfson.
The levaya will take place tomorrow, at 10 a.m., at Yeshiva Sho’r Yoshuv, located at Cedarlawn Avenue in Lawrence, NY.

Keep up the good work.
BDE- His Haznei Leches was truly inspiring and incomparable. I know first hand stories where he has saved Yidden by the thousands purely for the lman Hashem.
Davened with him almost every morning.Sat quietly never even asked for an aliyah or any otherkibbud.
baruch dayan emes, i know through his generousness i was benefited to journey along the path of traditional Judaism.
Why no mention of his chashuve sons in law as well?
