rubashkin-bitachon3Exclusive: After being transferred to the Black Hawk County jail in Waterloo, Iowa, in advance of his upcoming state trial, Reb Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin has been moved back to his former prison, the Linn County Correctional Center, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Matzav.com has learned.

Reb Sholom Mordechai was initially moved to Waterloo upon direction from federal marshals, who said that the prison there is closer to the courthouse where the state trial on 83 misdemeanor child labor charges is being held.

Reb Sholom Mordechai’s lawyers said at the time that they had serious concerns that the local jail would not meet Reb Sholom Mordechai’s religious needs.

In fact, after he was denied his yarmulke and tzitzis, he was placed in solitary confinement at Black Hawk. Guards initially had to carry him to around because he would not walk without his yarmulke and tzitzis.

Also, Reb Sholom Mordechai’s attorney, Monty Brown, said that Reb Sholom Mordechai had not eaten since noon yesterday because the Black Hawk County jail had not offered kosher food that met his standards.

Boruch Hashem, he has since been transferred back to the prison in Cedar Rapids.

As reported earlier today, Black Hawk County District Associate Judge Nathan Callahan denied a motion by Reb Sholom Mordechai’s attorney’s to delay the misdemeanor child labor charges until July because of pre-trial publicity and new evidence presented to the defense.

Judge Callahan said Iowa law does not require Reb Sholom Mordechai’to be present during the trial, so it will proceed without him, if necessary.

Jury selection began this afternoon.

Please continue to daven for Reb Shalom Mordechai ben Rivkah.

Significant funds must still be raised for the legal defense. Anyone who can help out and lend support should take a moment to send a donation to the Pidyon Shvuyim Fund. The help of Yidden across the globe is severely needed.

  1. Boruch Hashem, he has since been transferred back to the prison in Cedar Rapids.

I suppose these days that is a brocha.

  2. What can any of us say, that our circumstances are “too difficult” to keep mitzvas??? Sholom Rubashkin was chosen to teach the Klal how to remain steadfast in extraordinary circumstances.

  3. Why couldn’t he eat other things, like fruit and vegetables? Why is a hunger strike necessary? Something tells me this lawyer gives some questionable advice.

As far as the trial preceding without him, it happens sometimes if the defendant isn’t there to testify, or doesn’t want to testify. The trial will still proceed according to the law.

Let’s just pray that the truth is told by all involved and the jury does their best. I still believe in our criminal justice system.

  4. It would make more sense and more appreciated that those anti-semitic ruthless prosecutors not be present at the trial rather than Reb Sholom Mordechai.

  5. I do not believe in the american justice system anymore.
Inerestingly enough, I was once told to plea bargain on a ticket. They told me to say I had a bald tire, and they will reduce the charges of going over speed limit. I didn’t understand how you could say you had a bald tire, when you didn’t. To me, that is a lie.

I learnt very soon that in America, lying is the way to go, because in this country everyone lies.

The officer could not understand how “stupid” I could be refusing the plea bargain.

In the end, I accepted the plea bargain, (begging Hashem to forgive me for this lie) because another yid told me, that is the way this is done in this country.

I understand clearly that R’ Sholom did not do 99% of what they accused him of, and therefore he had a hard time saying he did do it. I don’t blame him for one minute. He is good and innocent on nearly every single issue. But in America, to get a short term in prison you better be a liar, because America is made out of liars!!!! From Obama and down!

To all those people on other blogs who still have the chutzpah to say: did the crime, do the time even if a short sentence, on them it is a real shayla if they are actually Yidden or not.

May the Juge, Prosecutor and all those who wish bad on this wonderful eved Hashem, get their justice from the Aibishter. Let them get a makah from Hashem wherein they lose their power of Deebur totally.

  6. Come to think of it, between saying on a public site you want a federal prosecutor and federal judge dead and claiming that everyone in the US lies, I’m starting to guess you must live out of the country. It makes sense, because I doubt an American would say such things — death threats against Federal officials are taken pretty seriously.

So I say with all my heart, I hope you’re happier with the system wherever you live, and that you, too, will be satisfied with the outcome of this trial.
