Rebbetzin Ahuvah Berman a”h


candle-small3Moments before the arrival of Shabbos, the news of the passing of Rebbetzin Ahuvah Berman a”h spread across Eretz Yisroel. Rebbetzin Berman, the youngest daughter of the Steipler Gaon, Rav Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky zt”l, was renowned as a caring and sensitive person who was a devoted wife to her illustrious husband, Rav Shlomke Berman zt”l, rosh yeshiva at Ponovezh Yeshiva, and was zoche to raise a family of talmidei chachomim. She was 78.

Despite numerous trials and tribulations – including the petiros of two of her sons during her lifetime – she always maintained simchas hachaim and showed great devotion to her husband as well as her father, who lived in her home for some time and to whom she was supremely dedicated.

Rebbetzin Berman is well-known as having been the address for those who wished to purchase the seforim of her father, the Steipler Gaon.

She is survived by her brother, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, as well as children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in her path. Her children include her son, Rav Chaim Peretz Berman, who is a rosh yeshiva at Ponovezh Yeshiva and a son-in-law of Rav Berel Povarsky, and her daughter, Rebbetzin Kahaneman, wife of Rav Eliezer Kahaneman, nosi of Ponovezh Yeshiva.

The levaya will take place on Motzoei Shabbos at Rebbetzin Berman’s home.

  1. In the name of a family member, I was requested to posy some corrections to this article. Rebbetzin berman only lost one child in her life. His name was hagaon reb avrohom yeshaya zt”l. In addition, her daughter, married to reb eliezer kahanaman and her son reb chanoch need a refuah sheleima. Also, she did not sell the seforim of the steipler. It is her sister rebbetzin barzam who continues to sell the seforim.
