The Rebbetzin was 79.

The Rebbetzin had davened Minchah at the Lederman shul near her home. When she began climbing the stairs to her house, she said that did not feel well. She sat in her living room and, after a few minutes, family members summoned medical personnel.

On Motzoei Yom Tov of the first day of Yom Tov, the Rebbetzin had gone with Rav Chaim to visit her father, Rav Elyashiv, in Yerushalayim. She also visited the Kosel.

The Rebbetzin was renowned for making herself available to tens of thousands of women who converged on her home for her blessing and counsel. She was a truly remarkable women who touched thousands of lives, inspiring countless individuals in their avodas Hashem. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of so many Yidden across the globe. Rebbetzin Kanievsky was one of most inspiring and amazing women of our generation.

The Rebbetzin is survived by her father, Rav Elyashiv; her husband, Rav Chaim Kanievsky; her children, Rav Avrohom Yeshaya Kanievsky; Rav Shlomo Kanievsky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Kiryas Melech; Rav Yitzchok Shaul Kanievsky; Rebbetzin Shteinman, wife of Rav Shraga Shteinman; Rebbetzin Tzivion, wife of Rav Yehoshua Tzivion; Rebbetzin Epstein, wife of Rav Dovid Epstein; Rebbetzin Kolodetzky, wife of Rav Yitzchok Kolodetzky; and Rebbetzin Braverman, wife of Rav Zelig Braverman.

She is survived by dozens of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren following in her path.

During her lifetime, she experienced the passing of her sisters, Rebbetzin Zilberstein, Rebbetzin Berlin and Rebbetzin Auerbach, and her brother-in-law, Rav Yosef Yisroelson zt”l.

The levaya left her home on Rechov Rashbam near the Lederman Bais Medrash at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Motzoei Shabbos Chol Hamoed and proceeded to the Shomrei Shabbos section of the Bais Hachaim in the Zichron Meir neighborhood of Bnei Brak.

  2. I received a bracha from her this past summer with a group of yeshiva bochurim. She greeted everyone b’sever panim yafos and she gave Brochos to everyone with great Kavanah. She was a true Tzadakeis, and balaas chessed. Her constant Avodas Hashem was beyond compare. Woe to us, upon the loss of this great and holy Tzaddeikis and Bas Melech.

  3. How come you didnt show a picture of Rebbitzen Pam a”h when she passed away & now you suddenly changed your mehalich & show a picture of a lady on your Torah Wesite?! How can you pick & choose who is more Chashuv?

  4. Thank you for showing us a picture of this heilige Rebbitzen who gave chizuk to so many. I hope other frum media show her picture. It will give chizuk to many ladies. How many times we read stories of how Rebbitzens faces shined with varmkeit and we would like to see examples of this. In these times we need the visual power to help us set role models for our ladies.

  5. Shlita, maybe they didn’t have a picture or thought the halacha about such pictures was a certain way and then realized differently, or something else.

  6. #20: I don’t know if you’ve ever been in Bnai Brak, but over there, even among the most chareidi like the Kanievski mishpacha, the native language is Ivrit. By R” Chaim himself yiddish is primary, but by his children and grandchildren in Bnai Brak, Ivrit with the havara sefardit is the mama lushen.
