candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Chana Weinberg a”h, wife of Rav Shmuel Yaakov Weinberg zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, and daughter of Rav Yaakov Yitzchok Ruderman zt”l, founding rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel in Baltimore from 1933 to 1987.

Following the petirah of Rav Ruderman, Rav Weinberg served as rosh yeshiva until his petirah in 1999, and Rebbetzin Weinberg served as the consummate eizer kenegdo, assisting her husband and doing whatever she could to allow him to devote himself to his learning and his talmidim. The Rebbetzin worried about each talmid and constantly expressed her desire for them to grow into Bnei Torah and yirei Shomayim.

Rav Weinberg himself used all of his unique abilities and his genius to serve Klal Yisroel, and the Rebbetzin was an equal partner in his endeavors. The Rebbetzin was his help mate in all of his undertakings on behalf of Yiddishkeit. Not only did she free him from the yoke of responsibility in the material aspects of the house, but she was also instrumental in helping him achieve lofty spiritual pursuits. As Rav Weinberg led the growing yeshiva, it was the Rebbetzin who constantly encouraged him to persevere.

The Rebbetzin is survived by a family of gedolei Torah and rabbonim, including Rebbetzin Miriam Feldman, wife of Rav Ilan Feldman of Atlanta, and Rebbetzin Weisbord, wife of Rav Beryl Weisbord, menahel ruchani of Yeshiva Ner Yisroel.

  1. interesting,

it is not assur if it’s for the honor of the nifteres, as in a much larger and organized funeral. They may be waiting for her son from Eretz Yisroel to fly in as well

  2. I was very disturbed to see how your company seemed to fail to mention the other children , and grand children of this most distinguished rabbinical family.

  3. If this was a Baltimore notice, or an Atlanta notice, it is normal to mention the local reference only. This seems to be a broader forum, and therefore more care must be taken. For a Torah notice, not a newspaper, not to mention Rabbi Matis Weinberg shlit”a who is mamshich darkam is a slight in kovod HaTorah. Rabbi Simcha Weinberg and the daughters who are all wives in chashuve families should have just as much billing as their siblings. Please fix.

  4. Rebbitzen Weinberg was very involved in the Baltimore Jewish community. one of her major accomplishment was the bikur cholim of Baltimore. B”h every yid that needs medical attention from over the world gets helps, finds places for the famlies to stay and gives them meals the whole 9 yards. Shalom bayis problems, helping parents who had problems with children helping families who needed parnassh working with families being frum children who became frum but the parents did not like it that there children was frum and so many other chassidim she did that we could take me all day to right. You can say she was another Mother to klal Yisrael Her doors was open to everyone.

  5. I wish a long life to her family members. If anyone is able to take a message through to the family themselves, please pass this on to the Lobel family (her granddaughter) from the Einsteins in Sydney.
