It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Chaya Rechel Roth a”h of Boro Park. She was 77 years old.

Rav Roth is the author of Emek HaTeshuvah, Chezkas Taharah, Emek Shmaatsa, Chazon Yechezkel, Mishpat Ha’aretz, Keren HaTorah, Mai Chanukah and other works.

The rebbetzin was born in Satmar, Romania and subsequently survived the Holocaust, immigrating to Eretz Yisroel and meriting marrying a young budding talmid chochom, Yechezkel Roth, a talmid of Satmar who became a dayan in Yerushalayim.

After many years of living in Eretz Yisroel, the rebbetzin and her husband immigrated to the United States, where Rav Roth became known for his halachic expertise. Later, Rav Roth began dividing his time between New York and Eretz Yisroel, where he secludes himself for weeks on end in Meron in the shadow of the kever of Rav Shimon bar Yochai.

Back in 1972, the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum, sought a posek with uncompromising standards to serve on the Satmar bais din in Boro Park. He dispatched messengers to Rav Roth’s home in Eretz Yisroel, requesting that Rav Roth relocate to Boro Park, and Rav Roth assented. Since then, the rebbetzin and Rav Roth lived in New York.

The rebbetzin was a devoted eizer kenegdo and devoted herself selflessly to her husband, allowing him to spend his days learning and teaching Torah. Her dedication to her husband, her family and Yidden in general was remarkable.
