candle[Levaya info below.] It is with great sadness that we report the passing today of Rebbetzin Esther Mindel Katz a”h, wife of Rav Chaim Mordechai (Mottel) Katz zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Telshe Yeshiva Cleveland. She was 101 years old.

Levaya details will be provided once they are finalized.

[In 1918, Rav Mottel married Rebbetzin Perel Leah, a daughter of Rav Yosef Leib Bloch zt”l, in Telz, Lithuania. In 1930, Rav Mottel’s wife, father, third oldest child, and father in law passed away. The following year, he married Rebbetzin Chaya Kravitz. In 1940, Rav Mottel and Rav Eliyahu Meir Bloch managed to travel out of Soviet occupied Lithuania and make their way to the United States, in the hope of re-establishing the Telshe Yeshiva and bringing over its talmidim. Both Rav Mottel and Rav Bloch were unable to bring their wives and children, the fate of whom remained unknown to them until 1944. Towards the end of the war, Rav Mottel discovered that his wife and 10 children had been killed by Nazi forces in Telz in 1941.]

In 1946, Rav Mottel married his wife, Rebbetzin Esther Mindel, nee Mandel, who was a devoted eizer kenegdo to him until his passing 50 years ago, on November 17, 1964.

Update: The levayah will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 15, Hoshana Rabbah, at Shomrei Hachomos, located at 4218 Fort Hamilton Parkway in Borough Park, Brooklyn, at 10 a.m., leaving for kevurah immediately to the Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey.
