candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the tragic passing of Rebbetzin Gita Frankel a”h, who passed away today after drowning in Yam Hamelach (the Dead Sea), off of the beach in Ein Gedi.

The Rebbetzin was the wife of Rav Shalom Frankel, one of the respected elder chassidim of the Toldos Avrohom Yitzchok community in Meah Shearim. She was a sister of Rav Meir Bransdorfer zt”l, long-time member of the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis in Yerushalayim

According to a source, the Rebbetzin underwent cardiac or cerebral arrest while in the water, causing her to drown.

The levaya is being held this evening in Yerushalayim.

Yehi zichrah borcuh.

  1. how can one drown in the yam hamelech? Did she possibly have a heart attack? either way she was a very chashuvah rebbitzen and will be missed

  2. All that is needed is for a person’s face- nose and mouth to be clogged, for one to drown. It is possible that she was under cardiac arrest, and was not able to lift her head, from all the pressure. True, a person will float, but when face-down, one’s face will float at the top of the yam hamelach- FACE DOWN.
May her memory be blessed, and may her numerous acts of kindness be an aliyah for her neshamah.
