It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Gittel Cohen a”h. She was in her 90s.

The Rebbetzin was the wife of Rav Moshe Cohen z”l, who passed away this past summer.

The Rebbetzin was a daughter of Rav Shmuel Ehrenfeld zt”l, the previous Mattersdorfer Rov.

She was the matriarch of an outstanding Torah family. Her only son, Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen, is rov of Khal Ateres Yeshaya in Lakewood and author of noted sifrei halachah. Her daughters are all outstanding n’shei chayil, the wives of noted talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah.

In her early married years, the Rebbetzin and her husband resided on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where they maintained a close kesher with Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l. In her later years, Rebbetzin Cohen lived in Lakewood, NJ, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Devorah Londinski.

The rebbetzin was a great-great-great-granddaughter of the Chasam Sofer through the Chasam Sofer’s daughter Hindel, who married Rav Dovid Tzvi Ehrenfeld.

She is survived by her siblings, Rav Simcha Bunim Ehrenfeld and Rebbetzin Esther Paler, and her children, Rav Simcha Bunim Cohen; Mrs. Esti Lesin, wife of Rav Shlomo Lesin; Mrs. Devorah Londinski, wife of Rav Yisroel Dovid Londinski; Mrs. Reizel Gruss, wife of Rav Mechel Gruss; Mrs. Leah Herzka, wife of Rav Menachem Herzka; Mrs. Chana Yitty Feigenbaum, wife of Rav Shlomo Feigenbaum; and Mrs. Basya Rottenberg, wife of Rav Chaim Dovid Rottenberg; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in her ways.

The levaya will be held today at 3:15 p.m. at Khal Ateres Yeshaya, located at 908 East County Line Road in Lakewood, NJ. Kevurah will follow at the East 7th Street Bais Hachaim in Lakewood.
