It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rebbetzin Miriam Feldman a”h. She was 96.

Rebbetzin Feldman was the wife of Rav Hirsh Feldman zt”l, mashgiach of Mirrer Yeshiva in Brooklyn.

The Rebbetzin passed away just days before the yahrtzeit of her husband, which will be marked this coming week.

Born in 1920 in Galicia as Miriam Lieberman, the Rebbetzin descended from various Chassidic dynasties, including Sanz, Ropshitz, and Dzikov. Her father, Rav Chaim served as a rov. Her mother, Tirtzah, was a great-granddaughter of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz.

After World War II, during which the Rebbetzin’s family endured the horrors of Siberia, the Rebbetzin married her illustrious husband, who had spent years growing in Torah and avodah in Kelm and Mir, and they subsequently settled after the war in Paris, where Rav Feldman led a yeshiva together with the famed Rav Mottel Pogromansky.

In 1950, Rav Feldman was appointed mashgiach of Mirrer Yeshiva by its founder, Rav Avrohom Kalmanowitz zt”l. The Rebbetzin began a career as a mechaneches, teaching at Bais Yaakov of Brighton Beach, Yeshiva of Brooklyn and later Masores Bais Yaakov.

Throughout the years, Rebbetzin Feldman stood by her husband as a devoted eizer kenegdo, allowing him to be engaged in harbotzas haTorah. Her humility and kindness were well recognized in her own community and beyond. During the last four decades following her husband’s untimely petirah, she continued to inspire and influence the many people who crossed her path.

Rav Feldman was an outstanding pedagogue, who inspired generations of talmidim at Mirrer Yeshiva. A true tzaddik, he was a humble gadol baTorah who imparted the hashkafos of the old world to talmidim who benefitted from his hadrachah and guidance. The Rebbetzin was a true partner of her husband’s in his Torah learning and teaching, constantly supporting him and allowing him to use his manifold gifts to spread Torah unencumbered.

Rebbetzin Feldman was an exceptional mechaneches, who educated and inspired generations of talmidos, utilizing her broad knowledge and genuine love for the bnos Yisroel to instill in them Torah-true hashkafos that they carried with them as they established families of their own.

Together with her illustrious husband, the Rebbetzin raised an outstanding family of talmidei chachomim and marbitzei Torah.

The Rebbetzin was a picture of ahavas Hashem and ahavas Yisroel, and she maintained a positive disposition all her years despite enduring many daunting difficulties and nisyonos throughout her life, including the petirah of her husband, Rav Hirsch, and the passing of her beloved children, her daughter, Mrs. Chashie Weiss a”h, and Chashie’s husband, Rav Zev Weiss zt”l, of Flatbush, and her son, Rav Chaim’l Feldman zt”l of Lakewood.

During the last period, the Rebbetzin, who previously resided in Flatbush, Brooklyn, lived at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reisel Melber, on Manor Drive in Monsey.

She is survived by her children, Rav Avrohom Shmuel and Mrs. Feldman (Flatbush), Rav Leibel and Mrs. Tirtza Puretz (Flatbush), Rav Shmuel and Mrs. Reisel Melber (Monsey), and Rav Dovid and Mrs. Rechel Reiner (Lakewood).

The levayah will take place this afternoon, at 2:30, at Mirrer Yeshiva, located at 1791 Ocean Parkway in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The aron will then be flown from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Eretz Yisroel, where a levayah will be held at the Brisker Kollel in Yerushalayim, followed by kevurah on Har Hazeisim in Yerushalayim.

The family will be sitting shivah at the Puretz home, located at 1877 East 9th Street, between Avenue S and 1st Court, in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Yehi zichroh boruch.
