It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Naomi Stein a”h, wife Rav Pesach Stein zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland.

Rebbetzin Stein was a daughter of Rav Zalman Bloch, menahel ruchani of the Telshe Yeshiva in Lithuania.

In 1948, Rebbetzin Stein married Rav Pesach, who was a son of Rav Aharon Shmuel Stein, the head of the Breinsk Bais Din and a talmid of Rav Shimon Shkop, who was the sandek at Rav Pesach’s bris. Rav Pesach learned in Breinsk, at the Slonim Yeshiva under Rav Shabsi Yogel, and in 1936 at the Mir Yeshiva in Poland, where he formed a close relationship with the rosh yeshiva, Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel. With the start of World War II, Rav Pesach fled with the Mir Yeshiva to Vilna and then to Shanghai, where he spent the remainder of the war.

Shortly after the rebbetzin‘s and Rav Pesach’s marriage, Rav Pesach began to deliver shiurim at the Telshe Yeshiva.

In 1988, the rebbetzin sustained the passing of her oldest son, Rav Shmuel Zalman, at the age of 38.

Rav Pesach passed away on 28 Iyar, May 10, 2002.

The rebbetzin is survived by her son, Rav Aaron Stein, R”M at Yeshiva Or Hameir of Peekskill. One of her daughters is married to Rav Yisroel Ginsburg, rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva of Staten Island, and another is married to Rav Avrohom Doweck, maggid shiur at Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland.

The levayah will be held today, Sunday, at 9 a.m. at Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland.

The aron will then be taken to JFK International Airport, where a brief levayah will be held in the Cargo Area at about 8 p.m. Sunday night. The aron will then be flow to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah on Har Hazeisim in Yerushalayim.

  1. What a sweet, woman ע”ה. My mother, Rebbetzin Schur ע”ה was very good friends with Rebbetzin Naomi Stein. May her family find nechomos and strength her way of true נעימות.

  2. I have been reliably informed by an ex Telzer that Rav Chaim was not related,and that the nifteres was a sister to lbc”l Rebbitzen Gifter shetichye ad meyoh v’esrim.
