candleIt is with great sadness that we report the passing this past week of Rebbetzin Perel Faiga Babad a”h, wife of the Tartikover Rov, Rav Alexander Asher Babad zt”l.

The Rebbetzin was born in 1925 in Dole, Hungary, to her parents, Rav and Rebbetzin Yechiel Greenzweig. Her zaida, Rav Asher Zelik Greenzweig, was the rov of Dole. Her mother, Rebbetzin Rochel Miriam, descended from various leading Chassidic dynasties.

The Rebbetzin survived the Auschwitz concentration camp. After the war, in 1946, she married Rav Alexander Asher Babad, the Tartikover Rov, in Budapest and the couple moved to the United States, where they resided in New York City. Rav Alexander Asher led the Reishe Shtiebel on the Upper East Side as well as Cong. Minchas Chinuch on the West Side.

The Rebbetzin is survived by her children, R’ Yechiel Babad, R’ Chaim Shea Babad, R’ Mordechai Babad, R’ Naftoli Meir Babad, Mrs. Rochel Miriam Mendlovitch, and Mrs. Chana Halberstam, and grandchildren following in her ways.

The family is sitting shivah at 1452 55th Street, between 14th & 15th Avenues in Boro Park, until Tuesday morning.
