[See our earlier report here.] Following areas of record coolness last summer and a swath of record snowfall and chill this winter, we now have record warmth in the Tri-State area for spring.
As extreme as March has been in terms of warmth, it appears the first seven days of April are pushing the unusual warmth to a whole new level.
A record-high temperature of 90 degrees was set at Central Park in NYC this afternoon beating the previous record of 89 degrees set way back in 1929. The temperature is 30 degrees above the average high for the date of 58 degrees. Reliable temperature records have been kept in New York City since the 1800s.
It appears that April will play out as AccuWeather.com long range expert Joe Bastardi had envisioned. During the middle of the winter, Bastardi predicted April 2010 to be amazingly warm.
A cold front, strewn with showers and locally severe thunderstorms will mark an end to the latest siege of record warmth from west to east today through Friday. Temperatures this weekend will hover around seasonable levels.
Less extreme warmth may try to build again early next week over much of the eastern half of the nation.
