yeshiva[Video below.] The heads of the yeshivas in Israel are “taking off the gloves” when it comes to fighting the government-imposed cuts in their budgets. Dozens of directors of hesder yeshivas and other Zionist yeshivas gathered for an emergency meeting this weekto discuss the cuts, which essentially eliminate two-thirds (66%) of the payments the government provides to a yeshiva per student.

In the months that remain until the end of 2013, yeshivas will receive a payment of 155 shekels per student instead of 476 in 2012. For avrechim (kollel students) the yeshivas will now receive 279 shekels instead of 856 in 2012.

Rabbi Ari Katz, head of the Yeshivat Kerem B’Yavneh near the city of Ashdod, told Arutz Sheva that the budget cuts had caught the yeshivas by surprise. The cuts, explained Rabbi Katz, mean that the yeshivas will not only have a hard time paying stipends to students, but will also find it difficult to pay salaries. Read more at Arutz Sheva.

  1. All religious parties have enough voting power to change this but instead they are more concerned about their own turf and fiefdom.

We left the Midbar and had to enter Eretz Yisrael and now we seem to want to exist in the state of the Midbar.

  2. Good Morning to them! Maybe now they realize that the state is against ALL religious people and it’s time for all of us to unite and make this country a real Jewish state.

and maybe the Chareidi and DL should get together and form a real Torah based army that has the intention to defend EY not just take away the frumkeit

  3. #1 #2 #3 I’m sure many national-religious rabbis secretly vote for our chareidi parties. it’s not fair to criticize them off-hand

  4. #6 – how are you sure?. and it doesn’t really matter what they do privately , if they tell the masses to vote for a party , they take responsibility for the outcome.

  6. this is proof that share the burdern claims are an excuse and isn’t real, if it was the mizrachi yeshivos who’s talmidim are not “parasites”, they contribute to the country would not not loose funding. Mr. Lapid here’s a nice shtuch for your claims

  7. The Religious Zionist political party is part of the coalition that is implementing these cuts — even though it has sufficient votes to bring down the government! But it got its big priority — more money for settlements. Rov Soloveitchik z’tz’l in 1977 sadly predicted that Religious Zionism would no longer be about Torah but about settlements and unfortunately to a great extent he has been proven correct.
