Report: Belzer Rebbe Working to Reunite Shas Party

belzer-rebbe-15Israel’s Channel 1 is reporting on efforts by the Belzer Rebbe to reunite the Shas party to ensure that it will run in the upcoming Knesset elections.

According to the plan, Rav Reuven Elbaz, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Or Hachaim in Yerushalayim, would head Shas in the March 17th elections and neither recently resigned Shas head Aryeh Deri nor Eli Yishai – who has since founded the Ha’am Itanu party – would run.

According to the report, Yerushalayim chief rabbi and former Israeli Sefardi chief rabbi Rav Shlomo Amar, as well as Yishai’s rov, Rav Meir Mazuz, would be added to the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas.
