In the days after the superstorm flooded homes, synagogues and yeshivas, water-soaked Jewish holy books containing God’s name – known as shaimos – were brought by their owners to a truck in Far Rockaway,

“In a matter of hours, the 24-foot trailer was filled to capacity – too heavy to drive,” said Rabbi Aron Rosenberg, a teacher at Yeshiva Darchei Torah in Far Rockaway. “They had to unload some of the books into a smaller van to ease the burden on the truck.”

  1. These seforim need to be replaced. There is a program being run by Agudas Yisroel of America and Achiezer for children to learn and raise money, the proceeds of which will be used to purchase seforim for those affected by Sandy and who lost seforim. All schools are being urged to participate. For more information, please email [email protected].

  2. Could it be that because people are using ipads/blackberry’s to daven & learn from, HKB”H threw out the Seforim? If you don’t need it (the Seforim), why have it?
