elliot-spitzerNew York – Former Governor Eliot Spitzer is planning a run for City Comptroller, a source said. Spitzer – who resigned in disgrace in 2008  – will begin collecting petitions to get on the ballot tomorrow, the source said.

He only needs 3,750 signatures to run for the job.

His main competition would come from Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, who exited the crowded field of mayoral primary candidates to run for Comptroller.

Spitzer, a multi-millionaire, will self fund his campaign and plans to spend whatever he needs to win, a source said.

Spitzer is the second scandal scarred elected official – along with Anthony Weiner – trying to make a comeback this election season.
