rav-yosef-shalom-elyashivThere is improvement in the condition of Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, but he remains in critical condition. That is the description offered by those close to the gadol hador, who say that reports of Rav Elyashiv’s “miraculous” recovery are exaggerated. Rav Elyashiv is in need a tremendous rachamei Shomayim, they say, and there is also no current timetable for Rav Elyashiv’s return home, contrary to reports. They do say that they are encouraged by the small progress made over the past few days by the 101-year-old posek hador.

Rav Elyashiv remains in the cardiac unit on the tenth floor of Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center, as he is now in his third week of hospitalization.

While the situation remains serious, compared to three weeks ago there is a definitely significant improvement in Rav Elyashiv’s condition, his doctors aver.

Rav Elyashiv has, boruch Hashem, been able to sit up, and his grandchildren continue to take shifts around the clock as they did when Rav Elyashiv was at his home on Rechov Chanan in Meah Shearim.

Doctors are hopeful that next week, if things progress, they will be able to remove Rav Elyashiv’s ventilator completely.

As reported here on Matzav.com, last week Rav Elyashiv was removed from his medically induced coma. Doctors were then encouraged that he was responding. Two weeks ago he underwent a tracheotomy, allowing him to breathe without the use of his nose or mouth.

Klal Yisroel is asked to continue davening for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.

  1. Thank you Matzav for putting it as is.

The medicinal regiment Rav Elyashiv is on is called tefila, any slacking off is the equivalent of walking in to the room and lowering the amount of medicine he’s receiving.

Those reports are a disservice at best, and extremely harmful at worst.

  2. I hear both sides.
On one hand when you hear these encouraging reports, you feel that the tefilos are helping, so you feel encouraged to daven more.

Either way, even more important then tefilos are good midos.
