Rumors that were recently spread, and unfortunately reported by certain chareidi media outlets as well, claiming that Chacham Ovadiah Yosef is losing his hearing are absolutely false, those close to Rav Yosef said today.
“This is a vicious rumor,” said one mekurav.
The rumors that Rav Yosef can no longer hear began to spread after he suffered from an ear infection for a period of a week and a half during which he was unable to hear through one of his ears due to excessive fluid and inflammation.
“The claims were made without concern from the kavod of Maran,” said a source close to Rav Yosef. “Baruch Hashem, Maran’s hearing will be fine.”
Doctors caring for Rav Yosef recommended treatment that takes about three weeks, which is why at the moment Rav Yosef has trouble hearing in one of his ears.
“This is not a long-term condition as some said. Rumors that changes and adjustments have been made at his home because of his alleged loss of hearing are false,” said the source. “The only change has been at the bais medrash, where a speaker has been installed to help him during davening until his treatment is completed,” he said.
