Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) on Sunday said Republicans will confirm President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court “one way or another,” echoing earlier comments made by Vice President Pence on Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation.

Republicans have promised to confirm Gorsuch, even suggesting the so-called “nuclear” option, which would alter the Senate rules so that overcoming a procedural hurdle to his confirmation would only require a simple majority of 51 votes.

So far, two Democrats have said they will back Gorsuch for the seat on the nation’s highest court. Republicans, with their 52-person majority in the upper chamber, still need six Democrats to support the nominee to reach the 60 votes currently required to end debate.

This comes after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called on President Trump today to select a more “mainstream” nominee.
