santorumIsrael knows that the Obama administration is not its friend, evidenced by pressure the White House is putting on it to accept a peace deal with the Palestinians that is not in Israel’s best interest, former U.S. presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

“No one wants to criticize the president. No one wants to criticize the secretary of state. But the average Israeli knows whose side that John Kerry and Barack Obama are on, and it’s not to protect the security of Israel,” Santorum said during a phone interview from Jerusalem.

“The idea that Israel should not have defensible borders, the idea that Israel should not be able to respond when 3,500 rockets come flying out of torturous, southern cities, and that you can’t respond when you have people that have built tunnels to bring in terrorist and other types of activities that are going to harm your people – that you can’t stop that and putting pressure on them to get in negotiated settlements that is not necessarily favorable to the security of Israel. Friends don’t do that.”

Santorum noted the ruthlessness of Hamas, which he said on a daily basis tries to destroy a power plant supplying electricity to Gaza. And “almost every day, even during the war, Israel sends shipments into Gaza of food, medicine, and supplies, and Hamas shoots missiles at them, too.”

This kind of “deranged leadership” for the citizens of the Gaza strip needs to end, and “it’s incumbent upon the Palestinians in Gaza to throw off these radical Muslims who don’t care about the people that are in Gaza,” Santorum said.

President Barack Obama and his administration now garner so little respect across the world that the peace negotiation being brokered between Israel and the Palestinians does not even involve the United States, he said.

“You have Hamas and Israel at war and the secretary of state of the United States is a cheerleader on the sideline,” he said. “That tells you how far the United States has fallen, both in the eyes of the Israel and in the international community.”

  1. Oh, but the left-wing Jewish Democrats? They think Obama is the greatest thing for Israel ince sliced bread.

And Hillary? For some inexplicable reason (because she is a Democrat, perhaps?), they think that this narcissist will be a great President and a great friend of Israel.

What will it take to get these zombies to wake up and smell the coffee? Today’s Democrat Party is where American Jews should no longer be affiliating themselves: They are anti-Israel, anti-Jewish, and anti-G-d.

  2. I am not Charlie Hall; I am actually on the other side of the political spectrum. Still, simple fairness and honesty prompt me to point out the following:

The U.S. is most definitely Israel’s friend, best friend and at times only friend in the world. This has been true under previous administrations and continues to be true under President Obama’s. One has to be willfully blind to miss it.

Who sends $3,000,000,000 in yearly in aid to Israel?

Who sponsored the development of Iron Dome to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars?

Who ships massive amounts of state-of-the-art weaponry and defense systems to Israel?

Who has consistently supplied a full-throated voice in defense of Israel in the festering sore of anti-Semitism that is the U.N, regularly rejecting and vetoing anti-Israel resolutions?

I voted against President Obama twice and strongly disagree with his positions on many things. Nonetheless, the ripping, bashing and smearing of him as an anti-Semite, anti-Israel (and possibly Moslem) person is 100% wrong as far as accuracy, decency and honesty.

  3. I thank Senator Santorum for his service. His is an important and thoughtful voice and I hope he continues to do good and important things.
But having finally got around to reading R’ Avi Shafran’s thoughts, I’m going to be much more careful in how I voice any reservations about the president.

  4. I voted for Santorum in the NY primarys last time around. Its too bad that the LOSER, Mittens Romney killed any chance of Santorum getting in, with his vicious attacks on him.
