NORFOLK, VA – AUGUST 11: Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (L) announces Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) (R) as his running mate in front of the USS Wisconsin August 11, 2012 in Norfolk, Virginia. Ryan, a seven term congressman, is Chairman of the House Budget Committee and provides a strong contrast to the Obama administration on fiscal policy. Until Saturday, nobody ever accused Mitt Romney of being bold. The poster boy for caution, Romney leaped way outside the box for the most important decision he will make as a candidate.
By picking the youthful and brainy Paul Ryan as his running mate, Romney passed up far less controversial options. He went bold instead of safe.
Then again, he didn’t really have much choice. Romney was on course to lose the election to Barack Obama, perhaps by a landslide. Swing states were swinging against him as independents, despite unhappiness with Obama, were even more unhappy with Romney. And too many Republicans remain unenthusiastic about their party’s nominee.
The Ryan pick signals that Romney wants to reset the campaign.

The latest Fox News poll had Romney getting only 40 percent of the total vote, meaning he hasn’t even secured the normal GOP base.

  2. I dislike the President and will not vote for him, but he will win the election. He’s 2 to 1 ahead of Romney with women and he was ahead with senior citizens even before Romney chose Ryan. Ryan scares the daylights out of the elderly because of Medicare.Romney and Ryan are against free choice concerning abortions which most women support. Obama will also get the majority of the Independents.

  3. Reb Hershel I agree. I also dislike him but think he will win bec all the blacks and muslims will vote for him. That is enough to win the election

  4. I DISAGREE! I REALLY ROMNEY HAS A GOOD SHOT AT TAKING THE WHITE HOUSE. LOOK AT THE CROWDS HE HAS ATTRACTED SINCE NAMING HIS VP. GO ROMNEY 2012
