ronald-reaganRonald Reagan’s son has revealed that he believes his dad suffered from the first stages of Alzheimer’s disease while he was still president. In the book My Father At 100: A Memoir, Ron Reagan says he thinks his dad would have left office had the disease been diagnosed then.

He recalls how Reagan Sr.  became uncharacteristically lost for words and looked “bewildered” during the 1984 presidential debates.

He also says his father may have suspected Alzheimer’s in 1986 when he was flying over familiar canyons and could not remember their names.

But White House doctors saw no evidence of the disease while Reagan was president. He was diagnosed in 1994, five years after leaving office.

  1. Im confused, is this a chidush? Most have us have known that for years. On the bright side at least we know he had no clue what was going on during Iran-contra, and if he ever did, he forgot sadly.

  2. It is against Torah Law to cast the dead in a bad light. While this may be said regarding a Jew, it is certainly bad practice.

In today’s world, anything can and will be said to sell a book.

    Why not?

  3. The son is actually trying to show his father in a better light. The Iran-Contra affair was conducted by people who had no respect for the law of the USA. The whole episode was a disgrace to the country. To say that the President didn’t understand it was happening is to exonerate him. Those who thought that he knew and approved of it considered him just another political cynic with no respect for the country or its laws.

  4. Michael Reagan has been very loyal to his father, both personally and politically. Ron Jr., has never gotten along with his legendary father and namesake. You’ve gotta consider the source.
