rush-limbaughMitt Romney may have been triumphant about his first-place finish in the Conservative Political Action Conference’s straw poll over the weekend, but here was Rush Limbaugh’s curt conclusion on Monday about that victory: “It doesn’t mean one thing.”

“Romney, by the way, won straw polls at CPAC in a lot of years in the past, in the years that Ron Paul didn’t win it,” the conservative radio host said on his show Monday. “And the years that Ron Paul did, that’s exactly what happened. He just bussed a bunch of people in, paid for their ticket to get into CPAC, they voted, and they left. This can happen, is the point.”

He continued, “Frankly, does it mean anything? At the end of the day, it doesn’t mean one thing. It doesn’t mean one delegate.”

The straw poll will neither give momentum nor kill it, Limbaugh added, dismissively noting that Romney also won the CPAC straw poll in 2007, 2008 and 2009, while he came in second-place in 2010 and 2011.

“Not to put CPAC down. There are just certain things that happen here that don’t really matter all that much and straw polls anywhere are one of them,” he said, according to a transcript of his show.

Romney won the annual straw poll on Saturday with 38 percent of the votes; he was followed by runner-up Rick Santorum who finished at 31 percent. Limbaugh has spoken favorably of Santorum in this election cycle, but the radio host has declined to make a formal endorsement in the GOP primary.
