Russia announced that it will build as many as eight nuclear reactors in Iran for “peaceful use of atomic energy,” according to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti. As part of the deal, the spent nuclear fuel will be “returned to Russia for reprocessing and storage.”
The news comes just two weeks before Iran’s nuclear negotiations with the West are set to expire. Over the weekend, Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei called for Israel to be annihilated, which makes the prospect of using nuclear reactors to build bombs more worrisome.
“We will not let Iran acquire a nuclear weapon, period,” said Vice President Joe Biden on Monday.
