rick-santorumGOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum slammed President Obama for apologizing to Afghans earlier this week for the recent burning of Korans at a U.S. military base this morning on “This Week.”

“There was nothing deliberately done wrong here. This was something that happened as a mistake. Killing Americans in uniform is not a mistake, ” said Santorum. “Say it’s unfortunate…but to apologize for something that was not an intentional act is something that the president of the United States in my opinion should not have done.”

Protests erupted in Afghanistan after the accidental burning and two American troops were killed by an an Afghan soldier.

“I think it shows weakness,” said Santorum on the apology.

Santorum is not the first Republican to criticize President Obama for his actions. Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said it was “an outrage” for the president to issue an apology.

  1. It’s wrong to criticize the President for the apology.
Apology doesn’t mean that we did it on purpose and we are sorry.
Apology means that we are sorry that we didn’t educate our troops well enough so this should not have happened.
In any case it is very easy to criticize from the outside.
When it concerns international policies or statements, all loyal citizens should back the president in public.
    Politics or no politics.
Santorum and Gingrich are totally out of place. It shows altruism visa a vis statemenship.

“Santorum and Gingrich are totally out of place”.
    You are out of space!
You don’t understand the Muslim mentality.
These monsters now want to burn down the White house and only consider hanging American army men an appropriate apology.

  3. “Educate our troops well enough”?
Hello! The troops aren’t there to distribute candy. What about Afghans, do they offer sweets to the US guest troops? Perhaps if these incensed devotees were to apologize for the lost lives on both sides, negotiate a surrender, and demilitarize, they would then have plenty of time and quiet and could pray to their heart’s desire.

“All loyal citizens should back the president in public”: I’d love to see this enforced upon our Arab citizens who not only insult the president, they also insult the country they take advantage of.

  4. #1 – In theory you are correct but not in this situation. Of course one should generally apologize, however, we are dealing with the Muslim world. They don’t say, “oh they apologized, let’s go vaiter”. They kill because of it. It was an accident, you can’t apoligize to those chayis!!!!!

  5. Or as I heard Michael Rubin say this morning, apologies were not out of order but only if he’d have called the Taliban themselves on the carpet for all the mosque bombings and resulting vandalism to their holy texts.

I do hope these fellows think long and hard and consult before making these kinds of pronouncements.
