brooklyn-bridge-scaffolding-damageA tugboat was carrying a crane when it struck the underside of the Brooklyn Bridge Tuesday night, briefly shutting down traffic.

The Department of Transportation said there didn’t appear to be any structural damage to the bridge. However, the collision led to a near-20 foot section of scaffolding being damaged.

The scaffolding was being used by workers to repaint the bridge, designated by the National Park Service as a National Historic Landmark.

The FDNY said there were no reports of injuries. Marine crews remained on the scene late Tuesday, surveying the damage.

All lanes were eventually reopened.

The Bridge, which crosses the East River and connects Manhattan and Brooklyn, is undergoing a $500 million rehabilitation project.
