Sen. Charles Schumer, a Brooklyn native, is staying out of the New York City mayor’s race.
When asked about former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s decision to enter the race last week, Schumer refused to offer an opinion.
“I’m not commenting on the mayor’s race or on Anthony Weiner’s race at this point, no,” Schumer said on CBS’ “Face The Nation.”
When moderator Bob Schieffer pressed Schumer as to whether he thinks Weiner ought not to run, Schumer again deflected.
“I’m not commenting,” said Schumer.
Weiner, also a Brooklyn native, formally launched his mayoral campaign Wednesday with an online video.
Weiner resigned from Congress in June of 2011 in the wake of scandal.
